Organizational Excellence
 

Dawn Ringrose has worked with organizations across sectors to implement quality management systems. Professional services include corporate training, assessment, and implementation assistance.

As a volunteer, Dawn has served as Director and Chair of the Quality Council of Alberta and as a Judge for the National Tourism Awards for Excellence (Tourism Industry Association of Canada) and the Premiers Award for Healthy Workplaces (Alberta). She is currently an External Review Team Member with the Premiers Award of Excellence (Alberta).

In 2005, Dawn was recognized by the Quality Council of Alberta for her contribution to excellence in the province as the first recipient of the QCA Quality and Excellence Builder Award.

Most recently, Dawn authored the Organizational Excellence Framework. This publication consolidates the best management practices of leading edge quality management frameworks (Canada, United States, Europe, Australia). These jurisdictions have conducted research dating back to the 1980’s showing that organizations implementing the frameworks outperform their industry counterparts on key performance measures. The best management practices are applicable to any size and type of organization and the guide provides not only detailed definitions but also implementation guidelines for the practitioner.

This publication is a core offering in the newly formed consortium, Organizational Excellence Specialists.


Organizational Excellence Specialists is a consortium devoted to developing internal and external consulting professionals in the Organizational Excellence Framework, a platform for long-term organizational success that is applicable to any size and type of organization. Registered specialists work with organizations across the public, private, and non-profit sectors to improve their performance and collectively make a positive contribution to Canadian productivity.

The consortium has four Directors:

Dawn Ringrose – Chair and Director and owner of Dawn Ringrose & Associates Inc. She has provided consultation to management in areas that positively contribute to organizational performance since 1984. Dawn is author of the Organizational Excellence Framework and involved in the development and delivery of related professional development materials.

Ron Higgins – Director and co-owner of the Wren Group. He has worked in organizational performance improvement since 1981. Ron is a contributor to the Organizational Excellence Framework and involved in the development of related professional development materials.

Dan Corbett – Director and co-owner of Corsaw Associates. He has extensive experience in organizational change and human capital strategies that enable organizations to align resource capacity to achieve excellence. Dan has served as President & CEO in the public and non-profit sectors and senior executive roles in the private sector. He is a contributor to the Organizational Excellence Framework and involved in the development of related professional development materials.

Al Kennedy – Director and owner of Culzean Consulting Inc. He has ten years as a senior executive in the public sector and over twenty years providing consulting and performance enhancement services to a wide range of organizations in the public, private and non-profit sectors. Al is a contributor to the Organizational Excellence Framework and involved in the development of related professional development materials.

Tourism & Hospitality
 

Dawn Ringrose draws on practical and academic experience to serve clients in the tourism & hospitality sector.

Prior to consulting, she worked in staff and management positions at food service, accommodation, leisure, and recreation establishments. Thereafter, Dawn built on this practical experience with academic pursuits.

Since 1984, Dawn has consulted to public, private, and not-for-profit tourism organizations on a wide range of assignments including: strategic planning, business planning, market research and planning, market and financial feasibility studies, community tourism strategies, quality management, operational review, and corporate training.

In 2002, Dawn co-created Alberta Attractions, an organization dedicated to working with tourism attractions throughout Alberta to improve sector performance. This organization received the 2002 Alto Award for Innovative Marketing from Travel Alberta and was a Finalist of the 2003 National Awards for Tourism Excellence in the New Business category.

On larger projects, Dawn works with her colleagues David Russell and Bennett Brown.


David Russell is Principal of DMRussell Consulting Inc., a tourism services firm formed in 2002 to provide senior level advice to governments and the private sector on tourism sector development and urban development and planning.

The principal, David Russell, has over 30 years experience, most recently as Managing Director for KPMG Consulting LP's international tourism consulting practice. Prior to joining KPMG, he was Partner responsible for the tourism practice for ARA Consulting Group Inc, one of Canada's leading consulting firms specializing in international consulting services.

Directing over 200 tourism assignments in more 20 countries in the last two decades, David's projects have ranged from Cabinet level advice on tourism destination issues to directing multi-disciplinary teams of up to 75 experts in preparing tourism master plans. This experience has included extensive feasibility work, conducted for domestic and international clients on hotels and resorts, interpretive centres and museums, tourism services, land use developments and technology initiatives.

Closely related to tourism is his land use planning experience, including long range and waterfront planning for Halifax, Canada where he directed the City's long ranging planning unit, and various downtown and waterfront planning and development projects in Canada, the US and the Caribbean.

Bennett Brown is Principal of Bennett Brown and Associates Inc., an operations based consulting company which provides experienced, pragmatic assistance to tourism and hospitality stakeholders. Formed in 1986 by Bennett Brown, a former partner of the Vancouver, Canada based hospitality and tourism practice of Laventhol and Horwarth, he gained his professional training at the University of Strathclyde, Scotland, from which he successfully graduated in hotel administration in 1962 and practical experience managing major hotels across Canada.

The firm provides services in Canada, the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean. Services include project management, financial and investment analysis, contract negotiations, operation reviews, market studies, education and training, tourism and parks planning. Clients include the public sector, entrepreneurs, lenders, funding agencies, institutions, professional associations and Aboriginal groups.
